Substance Use and Abuse Health Education

Christa McAuliffe Charter Elementary 2019-2020

Rule 6A-1.094122, F.A.C. was approved by the State Board of Education on August 21, 2019. This rule requires school districts to annually provide instruction to students in grades K-12 related to youth substance use and abuse health education.  Christa McAuliffe Elementary is proud to support this requirement with the following implementation plan:

Kindergarten – Fifth Grades

Red Ribbon Week will educate and instruct students how to:


  • identify ways that drugs, alcohol, and tobacco affect the body, family/friends, and the community


  • recognize warning labels and signs on hazardous products


  • recognize school and community health helpers


  • identify healthy practices and behaviors to maintain or improve personal health


  • predict how friends/peers may influence various health practices of children

Standards based/cross-curricular instruction using grade appropriate guidance resources which are implemented among lessons in literature, STEM, physical education, music, and art.
